​ AMTAS Scholarships

In order of earliest application deadline to latest!

Brian and Cathy Smith Memorial Fund: One cash scholarship of $500 will available to current or incoming interns pursuing training in chemical dependency or in adolescent programs each year.
Nomination Deadline: 5:00 pm EST on February 25, 2023
Application Deadline: 5:00 pm EST on March 25, 2023


Christine K. Stevens Development Scholarship: Two full tuition scholarships for HealthRHYTHMS training (valued at $599 each) will be available each year.

Application Deadline: 5:00 pm EST on March 25, 2023

Edwina Eustis Dick Scholarship for Music Therapy Interns: Two cash scholarships of $500 will be available to current or incoming interns each year.

E.T. Gaston Research Competition

Sponsored by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) in cooperation with the Student Affairs Advisory Board. Undergraduate papers on any topic relevant to the music therapy profession using the philosophical, historical, descriptive, or experimental mode of research are invited. A cash reward of $500 will be awarded to the winner(s) along with the opportunity to have the paper reviewed for possible publication in the Journal of Music Therapy.

The President's Challenge

The AMTAS President's Challenge was started in 2002 as a way for student music therapists to show our support for music therapy and to thank the professionals who have supported us in so many ways. The recipient must be a music therapist who is starting a music therapy program on a limited budget or with limited funds. We will support the recipient with donated musical items.

​STARS Awards: Students Taking an Active Role Scholarships

STARS Award-Graduate and Equivalency $220
STARS CBMT Scholarship $325
STARS AMTA Membership Scholarship $150
STARS Internship Allowance Scholarship $220

The American Music Therapy Association for Students (AMTAS) is pleased to offer FIVE scholarships for students (AMTA membership encouraged). The STARS Awards will be awarded to one undergraduate student and one graduate student. The STARS CBMT Scholarship will be awarded to an intern who will be transitioning to a professional and will cover the cost of sitting for the CBMT exam. The STARS AMTA Membership Scholarship will be awarded to an intern who will be transitioning to a professional to help cover the cost of their first AMTA Professional Membership. The STARS Internship Allowance Scholarship will be awarded to a current intern to help with expenses.

Applicants must have an interest in being involved in AMTAS at the school, state, regional, and/or national levels. These STARS Awards and Scholarships will be presented around the 2023 Symposium. Applicants do not need to be present at the conference to apply and win.

AMTA Symposium Scholarships

The 2023 AMTA Virtual Symposium is TBA. There are 250 scholarships available for students, interns, and new professionals (within 5 years of passing their board certification exam) on a first come-first served basis. These scholarships will cover the full cost of attendance.
