As music therapy students and professionals, we advocate for the wellness of our clients; however, it is just as important to take care of ourselves: people first, therapists second. How can we navigate the leap from student to professional? What hope, knowledge, and resources can we share with each other to strengthen and support our community?
Passages is a FREE symposium for students by students. It provides opportunities for students to present music therapy research & topics, talk about their experiences, and network with other student music therapists, interns, and new professionals across the country.

AMTAS hosts two student business meetings each year around National Conference/Symposium. Student Business Meetings are an opportunity to network with other students, hear reports from the officers and student representatives, and receive community updates. All music therapy students/interns are invited to attend these meetings to discuss the following agenda items:
- bylaw revisions
- proposed budget
- new AMTAS Executive Board
AMTA Student Members are eligible to vote on student business meeting agenda items. Register for AMTA Symposium to access the links to our 2023 meetings!
Nominations for the AMTAS 2024 Executive Board will open on Saturday, September 30th at the conclusion of the 1st Student Business Meeting. Open positions will include:
- President-Elect (at least 2 year term)
- Vice President
Students/interns interested in applying MUST become an AMTA Member by January 31, 2024. As of the Fall AMTA Assembly Meeting, AMTA student membership will be reduced to $60 beginning January 2024. We encourage you to support our organization and use your voice to continue advocating for students/interns, new professionals, and our music therapy field!
